Printing Press Discussion-What if it didn't exist?-J1

Today in class we talked about how our lives would be different if the printing press didn’t exist. I can tell you know that we had some deep thoughts in this discussion. My first reaction was me not doing anything but working. We wouldn’t have any kind of school unless you were rich. Imagine not having a chance to go to school because you’re poor or not good enough. That would be outrageous. We would all be illiterate. Books would be few, and life would be hard. We would have to literally sit around and talk amongst each other. What a radical idea? Things would be very different. I heard multiple people say they wouldn’t even be here. Either they were mixed or their parents met in college. The reason I say mixed people wouldn’t be alive is because their ancestors come from different areas around the world. People didn’t travel  much prior to the Colonial era. People lived tight knit societies. You would have regional activities that only they would know. There would be many differ

Response to Lily-J1

When reading Lily Wobbe’s blog I found some things that I disagree with. One specifically her blog titled” Trump: America's Last President?”  I think this blog was a bit of an overreaction on her part. Let me explain why. When having this discussion we were just mentioning the point some journalist were making in Trump becoming  America’s last president. I do  agree that these so called journalist do over exaggerate the stories. Trump isn’t a fascist. Only people with extreme views believe such a thing. Lily states “Let's dissect that. In order for Trump to be the last American president, total chaos and/or anarchy would essentially have to have consumed the U.S., whether this be by way of nuclear war, natural disasters, of just complete revolution among citizens. And we're a very long way from any of those happening to the degree that democracy in America collapse” . I disagree. To understand the United States politics you must go back. The downfall of America has bee

Response KC"s Blog-J1

When reading KC’s blog ( https://is.gd/tZ7Frs) I agreed with everything she said. I to love point out truth tellers. Just because some people claim it’s the truth it doesn’t mean it is. We in the world of journalism should all be truth tellers. People shouldn’t be dubious KC is saying. Not everything you read is true. Do your research on a specific topic and use sources. Often times people will just let the mainstream media spew garbage at them and be okay with it. She made a point in censorship. In Russia they huge censorship laws. This also happens in many Middle Eastern countries too. This has got to end . We the people need to be given good news.

Immigration Classroom Discussion-J1

Immigration Class Discussion After the current events quiz #4. There was a question about immigration. The question was asking what was happening to the teenage immigrant  camps/shelters. We started talking about how news reporters were finally able to see the shelters. Many people raised their hands to discuss the conditions and their moral policy on immigration. We all agreed that the United States had a problem with the border. But, some of us disagreed on how we should handle it. People like me said make it easier to come in legally so people wouldn't have to come illegally to escape vast poverty, drugs and violence, and oppressive governments. Others stated we should have much more border control(building the wall, increased amount of border control agents, and you get sent back if you came illegally).  We had fierce debate back and forth with each other and it was great to hear both sides. The class still had one more thing to say about immigration. We t

Class Discussion Response on Conglomeration-J1

At first when we started talking about conglomeration I didn’t know what Mr.Miller was talking about. I thought in my head “What is conglomeration?”. But, as he started to explain it became clear to me what he was talking about. As soon as Mr.Miller said “These big companies own lots of small companies to spread their message” . The first thing that came to mind was something I saw on Twitter a while back ago. It said 6 corporations own about 90% of what we watch and listen to.  I knew that large corporations like to spread their message (good or bad) to as many people as possible. They have such an impact on our lives that we rarely even know. As said earlier they have the potential to spread their message, no matter if it's against the people’s wishes or not. As I see this unravel I grow deeply saddened , because in my view no one corp. should have so much power in this modern society. This is one thing I’ve been waiting to talk about , because this is an important issue and

News Media Critique-J1

News Media Critique As I look at this grotesquely wrong article posted by Fox News and written by Brooke Singman (https://is.gd/AaRPv4). I see many flaws in fact and many misconceptions about Single-Payer Medicare-for-All. When I look at an article I always check two things. Verification and Truth. These are two of the ten yardsticks to journalism. Let me break this article down for you. According to the element number 1 (Truth), you should always tell the truth even it opposes your own point of view. This article doesn’t tell the whole truth. First, let me say that we already pay the most for healthcare in this country then any industrialized nation(per-capita). I think if the journalist didnt overreact as soon as they saw 32.6 trillion over ten years it wouldn’t have been a problem. I have seen many different estimations on Sanders’ Medicare for all bill, but this study really stuck out. First, the study is backed and funded by the very nasty and far right billionaire Koch brothe

Good Journalism-J1

Good Journalism A couple weeks ago my Journalism class talked about what was good and bad “Journalism”. When teaching us,our teacher Mr.Miller used two sets of guidelines. First, being the 10 elements of Journalism, and secondly being the 7 yardsticks. Some of the most useful in my mind being “truth”, “being a watchdog”, and lastly “Verification”. These three really hit my brain instantly and have stuck with me. First, we’ll go over the 3 I gave earlier.First, telling the truth. The first thing that comes to mind when talking about journalism is telling the truth. We always see “Journalist” getting critiqued and losing lots of credibility because they don't tell the truth. Prime example, let’s look at Alex Jones. He has come up with some of the craziest lies ever. He really thinks the Sandy Hook shooting was a hoax and set up by Hillary Clinton for a secret motive to get gun control legislation passed. Since then he’s lost all credibility, and in the foreseeable future will n
